Dee Dee Doodles – In the early ‘70’s, Ms. McNeil created and self
published a combination poetry and coloring book for preschool and elementary school children with illustrations
and poetry written and drawn by McNeil. The book was purchased by the Detroit, Michigan Headstart Program as
well as the Los Angeles Public School system and used as a teaching aid.
WattsWriters Workshop -As a member of this historic Southern California
Watt Writers Workshop, founded by Academy Award winning writer Budd Schulberg, Dee Dee McNeil scored music for
the play “The Iron Hand of Nat Turner” and acted as a stage hand for this production. The production was
sponsored in part by Sammy Davis Jr. and Directed by Ted Lange (later to become popular in the “Love Boat”
television Sitcom).
